Farren signs with Steel Wings Linz

2000-born Swift Current Broncos forward Michael Farren has signed with Steel Wings Linz of the Alps Hockey League for the 2021-22 season.

Farren, who hails from Richmond, BC, had nine goals and 23 points in 24 games with the Broncos in the abbreviated 2020-21 season. He finishes his WHL career with 107 points in 248 games with Swift Current, Kelowna, and Saskatoon.

Maple Leafs sign Menell to a contract

The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed defenseman Brennan Menell (21 goals, 124 assists in 196 games with Vancouver and Lethbridge from 2014-17) to a one-year, two-way contract for 2021-22.

The 24-year-old from Woodbury, MN had 38 points in 47 games with Dinamo Minsk in the Kontinental Hockey League during the 2020-21 season. The Leafs acquired him in a trade with the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday.

Burke inks an extension with the Kings

Twenty-four year old forwards Brayden Burke (85 goals, 253 assists in 238 games with Red Deer, Lethbridge, and Moose Jaw from 2014-18) has signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Los Angeles Kings on Sunday.

Burke, a 24-year-old from Edmonton, AB, has posted 99 points in 146 games with the Tucson Roadrunners of the American Hockey League over the last three seasons. The Kings acquired him from Arizona in a trade on July 24.

Carroll returns to Allen for 2021-22

Defenseman Ben Carroll (16 goals, 60 assists in 178 games with Edmonton from 2013-16) signed a one-year contract extension with the Allen Americans of the ECHL.

The 25-year-old native of Sherwood Park, AB posted a goal and 10 assists in 65 games as a rookie with the Americans in 2020-21. He made his Allen debut at the end of the 2019-20 season and had a pair of assists in two games.

Gropp leaves Stjernen Hockey

Forward Ryan Gropp (117 goals, 137 assists in 258 games with Seattle from 2013-17) won’t play with Stjernen of Eliteserien in Norway in 2021-22 and his contract was terminated.

According to a news release from Stjernen, Gropp’s mother recently passed away and he is staying in North America to be with family.

This past season, the 24-year-old Kamloopsian had seven goals and nine points in 17 games with Västerviks IK of HockeyAllsvenskan, which is the second tier of pro hockey in Sweden.
