Appelt handed an eight-game suspension 

Kamloops Blazers forward Ryley Appelt has been suspended for eight games for a hit from behind on Victoria’s Jacob Herauf. He served the first game of that suspension on Monday against Victoria and will be eligible to return on March 10th against Spokane. The WHL says the extent of Herauf’s injuries played a role in the length of the suspension and you can find details of the injury in the weekly report at the bottom of this article.

Jarvis named to CHL Team of the Week

Portland Winterhawks forward Seth Jarvis was named to the CHL Team of the Week as he put up three goals and six assists. In stark contrast to last week, when five WHL players made this team, Jarvis was the lone WHL representative on this edition.

  • Prince Albert’s Ozzy Wiesblatt recorded his 100th WHL point against Regina.

Dillon traded to Capitals

Brenden Dillon (280 GP, 11 G, 83 A with the Seattle Thunderbirds from 2007-11) was traded by the San Jose Sharks to the Washington Capitals for a 2020 second-round pick and a conditional third-round pick in 2021.

Phillips has jersey retired by Senators

Chris Phillips (119 GP, 17 G, 71 A with the Prince Albert Raiders and Lethbridge Hurricanes from 1995-97) had his jersey retired by the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday. Drafted first overall in 1996 by Ottawa, Phillips spent his entire 18-year career with the Senators.

Sutter gets contract extension in Germany

Brody Sutter (231 GP, 57 G, 68 A with the Saskatoon Blades and Lethbridge Hurricanes from 2008-12) has signed a one-year contract extension with the Iserlohn Roosters in Germany. This year with Iserlohn he had 11 goals and seven assists in 45 games.

Nunn extended in Switzerland

Garry Nunn (150 GP, 52, G, 80 A with the Vancouver Giants and Edmonton Oil Kings from 2007-10) had the option on his contract with Olten in Switzerland picked up for next season. This season he had 30 goals and 22 assists in 39 games, leading the team in both goals and points.

Valach released by Austrian club

Juraj Valach (129 GP, 18 G, 45 A with the Tri-City Americans, Vancouver Giants, Regina Pats and Red Deer Rebels from 2006-2008) was released by Linz Black Wings in Austria after scoring a goal and adding eight assists in 32 games.

Brandon Wheat Kings:

-After being out over the weekend, forward Marcus Kallionkieli is listed as out day-to-day with an upper body injury.

Everett Silvertips:

-Affiliated forwards Brendan Hunchak and Hunor Torzsok were returned to their teams. After leaving Everett’s game with Portland on Saturday, Jackson Berezowski is listed as out day-to-day with a lower body injury.

Kamloops Blazers:

Tyler Carpendale did not make his season debut after taking warm ups on Monday. He is listed now as day-to-day with the upper body issue that has kept him out all season.

Kelowna Rockets:

Nolan Foote is not listed on the injury report despite leaving his team’s game over the weekend in the first period. Defenseman Sean Comrie missed over a month then after returning for five games, is listed as out week-to-week with an upper body ailment. Defenseman Tyson Feist was also added as out day-to-day with an upper body issue.

Medicine Hat Tigers:

Cole Sillinger is getting closer to returning as he is now day-to-day with his upper body injury.

Moose Jaw Warriors:

-Goalie Boston Bilous was a noticeable absence as he did not come in for Brock Gould while the latter netminder was giving up 11 goals to Portland Sunday. Bilous is now listed as out day-to-day with an upper body issue. 2004-born goalie Kyle Kelsey was called up from BWC Prep of the CSSHL. Cole Jordan (2 weeks) and Daemon Hunt (7-10 days) are also getting closer to returning.

Portland Winterhawks:

-Defenseman Clay Hanus is a noticeable absence from the report as he left Sunday’s game with Moose Jaw after taking a hard check from Owen Hardy. He should then be ready to play in Portland’s next game.

Regina Pats:

Sloan Stanick (7-10 days) and Jakob Brook (day-to-day) are nearing returning to the lineup.

Saskatoon Blades:

-Overage forward Riley McKay is listed as out day-to-day with a lower body injury.

Seattle Thunderbirds:

Henrik Rybinski is nearing a return as he is now day-to-day and Lucas Ciona was added to the list as out day-to-day with an upper body ailment.

Spokane Chiefs:

-While Jordan Chudley (day-to-day) is getting closer to coming back, Filip Kral was added as out day-to-day with a lower body injury on the blueline.

Tri-City Americans:

Ian Ferguson was added to the list as out day-to-day with an illness.

Vancouver Giants:

-Forward Justin Sourdif missed Monday’s game with an illness and is now listed as out day-to-day.

Victoria Royals:

-Affiliate players Cage Newans and Keegan Maddocks have been returned to their teams and defenseman Ty Ettinger and goalie Connor Martin were called up. Defenseman Jacob Herauf is now listed as out week-to-week after taking a high hit in his team’s game with Kamloops over the weekend. Forwards Brayden Tracey and Tarun Fizer missed the last couple games and are listed as out day-to-day. Also missing some games over the weekend was Ty Yoder who is listed as out 4-5 weeks with a lower body issue. Import forward Keanu Derungs is out day-to-day with an upper body issue. That leaves just nine forwards not listed on the injury list this week.
