Daily Dose of the Dub: Alberta takes bronze at CWG; Former Rocket traded in NHL

Final Day: Alberta defeated Saskatchewan handily by a score of 12-0 to capture the Bronze Medal.

Former Rocket on the move

Former Kelowna Rocket (2010-15) defenceman Madison Bowey was traded to the Detroit Red Wings along with a second round pick from the Washington Capitals. The 23-year-old has skated in 84 NHL games with the Capitals, recording one goal and 17 assists, as well as a Stanley Cup championship last season. He also has a WHL championship on his resume, captaining the Rockets to the Ed Chynoweth Cup in 2015, also winning a gold medal at the World Juniors in the same season. In 259 games with Kelowna, he had 172 points (58G, 114A).

Raiders stars return

The Prince Albert Raiders are back with their two star players with the return of Brett Leason and Ian Scott to the team’s line up against Kootenay on Friday. The two members of this past Canadian World Junior team wasted no time leaving their presence on the game, with Leason assisting on three of the Raiders’ four goals and Scott stopping 21 shots for his fifth shutout of the season. Leason is up to 81 points (33G, 48A) in 46 games and Scott is 32-6-0-2 with a 1.86 GAA, a .933 save percentage and five shutouts this season.

Tendeck gets 50th win

Vancouver Giants goaltender David Tendeck recorded his 50th WHL win along with his fourth shutout of the season in a 4-0 win over Victoria on Friday. The 26 save performance is also his second shutout in his last three starts, to lead the Giants to their 40th win of the season. The Arizona Coyotes prospect improves to 20-10-1-1 with a 2.41 GAA and a .911 save percentage to go with the four shutouts.

Troubling Moments

Calgary Hitmen captain Mark Kastelic was given a five minute major for boarding and a game misconduct for this hit on ICE forward Sebastian Streu. He has been suspended once before in his WHL career, receiving one game in 2016/17 for a charging major.

Seattle’s Cade McNelly was given a five minute major for a check to the head and a game misconduct for this hit on Martin Fasko-Rudas. The 17-year-old has served six games between two previous suspensions this season.

Three Stars of the Night

1st Star: Vancouver’s David Tendeck stopped all 26 shots he faced in a 4-0 win over Victoria.

2nd Star: Prince George’s Taylor Gauthier had 41 saves to snap the Cougars’ long losing streak in a 2-1 shootout win over Kamloops.

3rd Star: Prince Albert’s Ian Scott earned his fifth shutout this season in a 4-0 win over Kootenay.
