McClennon hits 100 career points

2002-born Winnipeg ICE Forward Connor McClennon hit the 100 career WHL points mark last night when scored his first goal of the night at 17:27 of the first period of a 3-1 won over the Regina Pats. The goal came on the power play and was the eventual game-winning goal. McClennon also added an insurance marker at 6:09 of the second period.

Sawchenko signs entry-level deal with the Sharks

Goaltender Zach Sawchenko (177GP, 88-65-16, 3.11GAA, .908sv% with Moose Jaw ’13-’17) has signed an entry-level contract with the San Jose Sharks. Sawchenko has split this season between the Sharks AHL and ECHL affiliates. With the San Jose Barracuda, Sawchenko is 1-1-0 with a 2.18 goals-against average and a .917 save percentage through three games. With the Allen Americans, he has a 5-2-0 record, a 2.55 goals-against average and a .926 save percentage through seven games.

Fleury traded to the Ducks

The Anaheim Ducks have acquired Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Haydn Fleury (259GP, 30G, 104A with Red Deer ’11-’16) in exchange for Jani Hakanpaa and a 6th round draft pick. Fleury was playing his fourth season with the Hurricanes, posting one goal in 35 games. The Hurricanes selected Fleury in the first round of the 2014 NHL Draft who won the Calder Cup Trophy with the team’s farm club, the Charlotte Checkers in 2018-19.

Bowey heads to Vancouver

Defenseman Madison Bowey (259GP, 58G, 114A with Kelowna ’10-’15) has been traded by the Chicago Blackhawks to the Vancouver Canucks for a 2021 4th round draft pick. Chicago also sent a 2021 5th round pick to the Canucks. Bowey has played just four games this season, two with the Blackhawks (0G,1A) and two with the Rockford IceHogs (0G, 0A). Bowey was originally a second-round draft pick of the Washington Capitals in 2013.

Lazar traded to Boston

Forward Curtis Lazar (199GP, 99G, 70A with Edmonton ’10-’14) has been traded along with Taylor Hall from the Buffalo Sabres to the Boston Bruins. In exchange, the Sabres picked up Anders Bjork and a second-round 2021 NHL Draft pick. Lazar was in his second season with the Sabres, scoring five goals and adding four assists in 33 games in 2020-21. The Ottawa Senators drafted Lazar in the first round of the 2013 NHL Draft. Lazar is a two-time WHL Champion with the Oil Kings and won the Memorial Cup with the team in 2013-14.
