Pats statement on Garth Bedard

The grandfather of the WHL’s brightest new star, Connor Bedard, has passed away due to a motor vehicle accident. Bedard, who was to head to Texas to take part in the World U18 Championships, will make a detour to be with his family in North Vancouver, following Friday night’s game. Our condolences to the Bedard family and all those affected by the loss.

Chiefs equipment manager hits 500th regular-season game

Spokane Chiefs Equipment manager, Tim Lindblade, has reached the 500 game milestone in the Western Hockey League.

Joseph headed to Trinity Western University

Forward Jadon Joseph (253GP, 46G, 87A with Lethbridge, Regina, Vancouver, Moose Jaw, Kelowna, and Tri-City ’16-’20) has committed to Trinity Western University along with his brother Talor. Joseph played nine games with Bodens HF of HockeyEttan in Sweden, scoring two goals and adding four assists. The Lethbridge Hurricanes drafted Joseph in the fifth round of the 2014 WHL Draft.

Nick Merkley placed on waivers by Devils

Forward Nick Merkley (245GP, 85G, 174A with Kelowna ’12-’17) has been placed on waivers by the New Jersey Devils. This season Merkley has played 19 games for Assat of Liiga (4G, 9A), five games in Binghamton (1G, 2A), and 13 games with the Devils (2G, 4A). Merkley was drafted by the Devils in the first round of the 2015 NHL Draft.

Gallagher hits long-term injured reserve

Forward Brendan Gallagher (244GP, 136G, 144A with Vancouver ’08-’12) has been placed on long-term injured reserve by the Montreal Canadiens. He is expected to be out of action for at least six weeks. A fifth-round draft pick of the Canadiens at the 2010 NHL Draft, Gallagher has played 582 games with the team. This season Gallagher had 14 goals and nine assists through 35 games.

Bellows reassigned to Islanders taxi squad

Forward Kieffer Bellows (56GP, 41G, 33A with Portland ’17-’18) has been reassigned to the Islanders’ taxi squad from the main roster. Bellows has played 14 games with the Islanders, scoring three goals. Bellows was a first-round 2016 NHL Draft pick of the Islanders.

Pederson recalled to Coyotes roster

The Arizona Coyotes have recalled forward Lane Pederson (199GP, 53G, 87A with Seattle, Red Deer, and Swift Current ’13-’17) from the taxi squad. Pederson has now played three NHL games and has one goal. Pederson has appeared in 16 games with the Coyotes AHL affiliate, the Tucson Roadrunners. He has seven goals and 10 assists in 16 games. Pederson was a free agent signing of the Coyotes on October 13, 2016, and is on his second contract with the team, signed on August 15, 2020.

Davidson reassigned to Americans

Defenseman Brandon Davidson (200GP, 22G, 112A with Regina ’09-’12) has been reassigned from the Rochester Americans to the Buffalo Sabres taxi squad. Davidson has played six NHL games this season with the Sabres, remaining without a point. He has also played two games with the Americans. Davidson was a sixth-round pick of the Edmonton Oilers in 2010.

Tokarski reassigned to the Sabres taxi squad

Goaltender Dustin Tokarski (129GP, 77-39-7, 2.18GAA, .925sv% with Spokane ’06-’09) has been reassigned to the Sabres taxi squad following an emergency loan. Tokarski is 0-3-1 with the Sabres and has a 3.79 goals-against average and a .904 save percentage. The former fifth-round pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2008, has played two games this season with the Sabres AHL affiliate, Rochester Americans. Tokarski is 1-1-0 on the season with a 2.51 goals-against average and a .932 save percentage. Tokarski was an Ed Chynoweth Cup and Memorial Cup Champion with the 2007-08 Spokane Chiefs.

Burroughs recalled to Avalanche roster

Defenseman Kyle Burroughs (250GP, 22G, 98A with Regina ’10-’15) has been recalled to the Colorado Avalanche’s main roster as an emergency loan. Burroughs only NHL game saw him get into a fight and was a -1. In eight games with the AHL’s Colorado Eagles, Burroughs has one assist. Burroughs is a seventh-round pick of the New York Islanders from the 2013 NHL Draft.

Rasmussen and Cholowski reassigned by Red Wings

Forward Michael Rasmussen (161GP, 81G, 76A with Tri-City ’14-’18) has been reassigned by the Detroit Red Wings to their taxi squad. Rasmussen, a 2017 first-round pick of the Red Wings, has played 25 games with the NHL club, scoring two goals and adding five assists. Rasmussen has also played seven games with the team’s AHL affiliate, Grand Rapids Griffins, and has two goals and four assists.

Defenseman Dennis Cholowski (69GP, 14G, 52A with Prince George and Portland ’17-’18) has been reassigned from the Detroit Red Wings taxi squad to the Grand Rapids Griffins. Cholowski, a 2016 first-round pick of the Red Wings, has played two games with the Wings this season and has yet to register a point. With the Griffins, Cholowski has played 13 games and has three goals and seven assists.

Clague and Strand recalled to Kings main roster

Defenseman Kale Clague (195GP, 26G, 141A with Brandon and Moose Jaw ’13-’18) has been recalled by the Los Angeles Kings from the team’s taxi squad. A former second-round pick in 2016 of the LA Kings, Clague has played in 14 games with the NHL club this season and has six assists. In 18 games with the Ontario Reign, Clague has scored one goal and added five assists.

Defenseman Austin Strand (268GP, 40G, 82A with Red Deer and Seattle ’14-’18) has been recalled by the Los Angeles Kings from the team’s taxi squad. An undrafted prospect of the Kings, Strand has one assist in 13 games with the NHL club. Strand has played 11 games with the team’s AHL affiliate, the Ontario Reign, and has four assists

Bean reassigned to the Canes’ taxi squad

Defenseman Jake Bean (219GP, 49G, 147A with Calgary and Tri-City ’14-’18) has been reassigned to the Carolina Hurricanes taxi squad from the main roster. In 28 games with the Hurricanes this season, Bean has one goal and 10 assists. Bean is a former first-round NHL Draft pick of the Hurricanes.

Baddock recalled to Canadiens taxi squad

Forward Brandon Baddock (255GP, 54G, 49A with Edmonton ’11-’16) was reassigned from the Montreal Canadiens taxi squad to the Laval Rocket. Baddock has played 17 games with the Rocket this season, scoring twice and adding three assists. Baddock was a sixth-round 2014 NHL Draft pick of the New Jersey Devils.

Twarynski recalled to Flyers taxi squad

Forward Carsen Twarynski (257GP, 88G, 94A with Calgary and Kelowna ’14-’18) has been recalled to the Philadelphia Flyers taxi squad from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. This season Twarynski has played four games with the Flyers and two with the Phantoms and has yet to hit the score sheet. Twarynski was a third-round draft pick of the Flyers in 2016.

Gregor reassigned to Sharks’ taxi squad

Forward Noah Gregor (257GP, 129G, 164A with Moose Jaw, Victoria, and Prince Albert ’14-’19) has been reassigned from the San Jose Sharks main roster to the taxi squad. A fourth-round 2016 NHL Draft pick of the Sharks, Gregor has played 16 games with the team this season scoring three goals. Gregor has also played 10 games with the AHL affiliate San Jose Barracuda, scoring three times and adding six assists.

Schenn returned to Lightning Taxi Squad

Defenseman Luke Schenn (189GP, 12G, 56A with Kelowna ’05-’08) has been reassigned by the Tampa Bay Lightning to the taxi squad following an emergency exception. Schenn, a former first-round 2008 Toronto Maple Leafs draft pick, has played 24 games with the Lightning this season and has one goal and two assists.

Brooks reassigned to the Maple Leafs taxi squad

Forward Adam Brooks (317GP, 119G, 216A with Regina ’12-’17) has been reassigned to the Toronto Marlies by the Toronto Maple Leafs. Brooks, a fourth-round 2016 NHL Draft pick of the Leafs has played one NHL game this season, scoring once. Through 17 games this season with the Marlies, Brooks has four goals and nine assists.
