Daily Dose of the Dub: Oil Kings ship Semchuk to ICE; Raiders part ways with overager Meger

Semchuk dealt to ICE

The Kootenay ICE acquired winger Brendan Semchuk from the Edmonton Oil Kings on Thursday in exchange for a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2019 Draft. The 1999-born Semchuk posted a career-high 26 points over 49 games last season between Edmonton and Vancouver.

Raiders release backup goalie Meger

The Prince Albert Raiders have released 20-year goalie Curtis Meger. Meger joined the Raiders last season after beginning the year in Junior A, and went 8-10-1 with a 3.43 GAA and .886 save percentage over 27 WHL games. This move means 2000-born Donovan Buskey will back up Toronto Maple Leafs’ draft pick Ian Scott in the crease this year. The Raiders now have one open overage spot, as forwards Kody McDonald and Sean Montgomery are the only 20-year-olds on the roster.

Winterhawks acquire Bettens from Wheat Kings

Brandon has sent forward Rylan Bettens to Portland in exchange for a conditional draft pick in 2021. The 2000-born Bettens potted a career-high 14 points over 49 games last season, and became a trade target for Portland as forward Lukus MacKenzie is currently away from the team due to an undisclosed reason. Bettens, 18, becomes the fifth Winnipeg native on Portland’s roster.

Brandon designates Ettinger for re-assignment

The Brandon Wheat Kings designated 18-year-old d-man Ty Ettinger for re-assignment on Thursday. Ettinger had two goals and five assists for seven points last year in 45 games. He is from Alberta and has played for Sherwood Park in the AMHL. It is unknown at this time where he will land.

Brandon’s roster now sits at 24 with 14 forwards, eighth defensemen and two goalies.
