Daily Dose of the Dub: more training camp rosters announced; Tri-City cuts down to 36

Lets continue our long looks at the training camp rosters for the 22 WHL teams. Kelowna and Brandon are the two teams so far to not release rosters for either a rookie or main camp.

We have four more training camp rosters to look at today.

Prince Albert Raiders

Training camp started on August 25th.

Absences:

No Vojtech Budik in camp as he signed to play in the Czech professional league. Also, Adam Herold passed away as part of the tragic Humboldt Broncos bus crash last Spring. Defenseman Cody Paivarinta did not report to camp.

Overage players:

They have three in camp with goalie Curtis Meger, forwards Sean Montgomery and Kody McDonald

2018 Draft-They have signed both their first round pick – Nolan Allan and their second rounder – Tyson Laventure.

All of their other eight picks are in camp.

2017 Draft- Both of their first round picks – Kaiden Guhle and Cohner Saleski and their second round pick – Ozzy Wiesblatt are in camp, signed and trying to make the roster.

Davin Griffin (5th round), Hunter Strand (6th round) and Dylan Scriven (7th round) are not in camp, but the other four drafted players not signed are.

Edmonton Oil Kings

Rookie camp started on August 24th and main camp starts on the 27th.

The only roster released so far is the one for rookie camp.

2018 Draft-All 10 draft picks are in camp including their two first round picks Dylan Guenther and Keegan Slaney.

2017 Draft- Jake Neighbours (1st round), Logan Dowhaniuk (2nd round), Sebastian Cossa (2nd round), Raphael Pelletier (3rd round) and Jalen Luypen (9th round) are the signed members of this draft class in camp.

Tyler Hortsmann (4th round) and Chase Lacombe (5th round) are not in camp, but Brendan Kuny and Logan Holm are.

Calgary Hitmen

Camp started on August 25th.

Absences:

1999-born forward Lucas Cullen was at the Neely Cup with the Portland Winterhawks.

Overage players:

Three are in camp. Forwards Jake Kryski and Luke Coleman and goalie Nick Sanders.

2018 Draft- All 10 draft picks are in camp. Of the 10, defenseman Tyson Galloway and forward Sean Tschgerl are the ones signed.

2017 Draft- Defenseman Luke Prokop and forward Ryder Korczak are the ones signed. Six of the other seven are in camp with 10th round pick, goalie Trey Hirschfield being the lone absentee.

Calgary has just 27 signed players with only 13 of those in the forward group.

That could be why their oldest camp invitees are both forwards. They are 1999-born Timo Pelto from Plymouth, Michigan and 2000-born Cameron Judson.

Swift Current Broncos

Camp starts on August 27th.

Absences:

Kole Gable has committed to play in Fort McMurray of the AJHL as the overage shuffle was not likely to include him. He had 16 points last year in 68 games for the Broncos.

Overage players:

Forwards Tanner Nagel, Andrew Fyten and Kaden Elder and defenseman Ryan Pouliot are the four in camp.

Swift Current has just 24 signed players in camp with only six of those being d-men and one being a netminder. They will need to attend to acquiring at least a back up for Joel Hofer by the first preseason game.

2018 Draft- None of the 2003 group is signed yet. Eight of the nine are in camp with Brian Majic being the lone member of the group not in camp. The Broncos did not have any picks in the first two rounds and only had one pick in the first five rounds.

2017 Draft- The Broncos traded away signed picks in first rounder Joel Sexsmith and third rounder Ethan Hein. Of the rest of the other six, 13th overall selection Ben King and sixth round pick Alex Thacker are the only ones signed.

Wyatt Marlow is the only one of the other four not in camp.

Prince George Cougars

Camp started on August 24th.

Overage players:

There are only two in camp in defenseman Joel Lakusta and forward Josh Curtis.

Prince George has 32 signed players in camp with one of those being camp invitee Arjun Atwal. The 1999-born forward played 45 games across two seasons for the Saskatoon Blades.

They have another 1999-born invitee in forward Tyler Maser.

2018 Draft- They have yet to sign any picks from this draft. They drafted six times in the first three rounds. The lone pick not in camp is LA Jr Kings d-man Aidan Hreschuk who was taken in the fifth round.

2017 Draft- Only six of the 12 picks from this draft are in camp. First round pick Tyson Phare and fourth rounder Boston Maxwell are the lone signees of the group.

Stanley Cooley (3rd round), Zach Michaelis (4th round), Brody Gagno (6th round), Scott Gilowski (7th round), Logan Terness (10th round) and Kannon Flageolle (11th round) are the six not in camp.

Tri-City reduces roster to 36

Forwards Parker Bell (2003), Krystof Hrabik (1999-Import) and Sequoia Swan (2002), defensemen Bryan McAndrews (2001) and goalie Mason Dunsford (2003) are five on the roster who have not been announced as signing with the team.

Defenseman Riley Bruce (1999), who was invited after playing last year in Everett is also on the roster.
