Central Division Recap

Calgary Hitmen

Last Week – 1-2-1-0. After 4-0 and 7-2 losses to Division leaders Regina and Medicine hat the Hitmen played a couple of overtime games. They beat Swift Current 3-2 in a shootout and lost 3-2 in overtime in Edmonton. 9 of the last 18 games have gone to extra time and they have 4 wins in those 9 games.

In the 4 games combined last week the club only scored 6 goals, 3 came from defensemen Jake Bean, Brady Reagan and Jaydan Gordon.

This Week – It’s the start of a 4 game home stand with Edmonton and Saskatoon coming to the Saddledome on the weekend.

Playoff Position – 2 points behind Saskatoon for the 2nd Wild Card spot. The Blades have 1 game in hand. The 2 teams will play each other 2 more time in Calgary including the match-up coming this Sunday afternoon. They are also 5 points behind Red Deer for 3rd place in the Division.

Edmonton Oil Kings

Last Week – 1-2-0-0. After 6 weeks without a win the Oil Kings stopped their losing streak at 16 games with a 3-2 overtime against Calgary. All 16 losses were in regulation time. Losses 15 and 16 were by scored of 3-2 and 5-2 to Regina and Swift Current.

Defenseman Conner McDonald had 2 goals and 1 assist during the week. 5 of the 10 skaters to earn points in last week’s game came from rookies.

This Week – Will host Kootenay before departing on a 6 game road trip with stops in Calgary, Medicine Hat and off to play some BC Division teams.

Playoff Position – 10 points behind Saskatoon for the 2nd Wild Card spot and have Calgary ahead of them in the standings.

Kootenay Ice

Last Week – 0-1-0-1. After an 8 day break between games the ICE lost 4-3 to Prince Albert in a shootout and then were outscored 6-4 by Lethbridge.

The line of Colton Kroeker (4 goals 2 assists), Vince Loschiavo (2 goals 2 assists) and Brett Davis (3 assists) combined for 13 points in the 2 games.

This Week – Will play in Edmonton in a game that starts at 11:30am, then back home to host Saskatoon and Victoria.

Playoff Position – Tied with Prince Albert for the fewest points in the league.

Lethbridge Hurricanes

Last Week – 2-1-0-0. Extended their winning streak to 9 games with a 4-2 win over Prince Albert. The streak was stopped in Medicine Hat the next night as the Tigers won 5-0. The Hurricanes rebounded with a 6-4 win in Kootenay.

Zak Zborosky had 6 points (4 goals 2 assists), Tyler Wong scored his 39th & 40th and Giorgio Estephan had 4 assists.

This Week – Will host Victoria and Saskatoon.

Playoff Position – 2nd Place in the Division, 6 points behind Medicine Hat with 2 head-to-head meetings remaining.

Medicine Hat Tigers

Last Week – 3-0-0-0. The Tigers have won 4 in a row and 9 of their 10 with wins of 3-2 over Prince Albert, 7-2 in Calgary and 5-0 against Lethbridge.

Michael Bullion gave up only 2 goals against in 2 games and had a .957% and a shutout. Mark Rassell had a hat-trick and Zach Fischer scored 3 goals in the 3 games.

This Week – The Tigers will host Victoria, travel to Swift Current and then back home to Play Edmonton.

Playoff Position – 1st Place in the Division, 6 points ahead of the Hurricanes. Also 6 points behind Regina for top spot in the Conference.

Red Deer Rebels

Last Week – 0-2-1-0. The Rebels have only 1 win in the last 7 games. After convincing losses of 7-3 to Lethbridge and 4-1 to Swift Current they battle hard before losing 4-3 in overtime to Regina.

Lane Zablocki led the offence with 2 goals and 1 assist. While Austin Glover (1 goal 1 assist) and Michael Spacek (1 goa 1 assist) also got on the scoresheet.

This Week – The club will play the next 5 games far away from home with stops in Seattle, Tri City, Portland, Vancouver and Prince George.

Playoff Position – 3rd place in the Division, 20 points behind Lethbridge and now only 5 points ahead of Calgary. The Rebels and Hitmen play each other 3 more times this season.
