Giants drop another to the Silvertips, 6-1

In their third meeting in the last two weeks, the Everett Silvertips defeated the Vancouver Giants 6-1 Sunday at the Langley Events Centre. It was the sixth and final meeting between the two this season. It seemed fitting Everett got six goals on the night.

The Game

Jared Dmytriw opened the scoring in the first period on a fantastic solo play, beating three Everett players and going top-shelf on the Tips’ goalie. Everett would tie the game up later in the first though as Connor Dewar, continued his career year with his 36th goal. Bryce Kindopp, Garrett Pilon and Kevin Davis who got two, all scored in the second for Everett to give them a 5-1 lead after 40 minutes.  Davis’ second goal of the period was in the last second of the middle frame.

Patrick Bajkov-Bowen Byram (Chris Mast)

Riley Sutter scored on a tip in front to make it 6-1 Everett for good in the third period.

Dmytriw was the third star, Dewar was the second and Davis was the first for Everett with his two goals. Dustin Wolf stopped 28 of 29 in the win while Giants rookie netminder Trent Miner stopped 31 of 37 in the Giants loss. The two 2001-born netminders should see plenty of each other in the years to come.

Wrap Up

Everett did a fantastic job of shutting down record breaker Ty Ronning and Giants captain Tyler Benson in this game. Despite the loss, Vancouver clinched a playoff spot Saturday night and are on to the playoffs for the first time since their Pacific Coliseum days. The Silvertips won five of six against the Giants this season, including the last two at the LEC. Vancouver is in Kelowna Wednesday night. Their next game at the LEC is March 16th against the same Rockets.
