Giants book ticket to 2020 WHL Playoffs

No, the Vancouver Giants did not play tonight…

But they clinched a playoff spot on Wednesday night thanks to the Prince George Cougars losing in regulation to the Kelowna Rockets.

This marks the third straight season the Giants will appear in the postseason.

As it stands now, it’s almost certain we will see a Victoria/Vancouver playoff matchup for the third consecutive year.

Previous playoff matchups:

2019 second round – VAN in four games

2018 first round – VIC in seven games

Victoria sits in second place in the BC Division with 67 points in 58 games and clinched its playoff spot the night prior.

The Giants, on the other hand, have 65 points in 56 games played.

Second and third place in each division match up for the opening round, so with the Kelowna Rockets nine points back with an extra two games played, it looks like the Giants will be playing for home-ice advantage rather than finding out their opponent.

We will get a sneak peak of what to expect in the playoffs this upcoming weekend as the two teams face each other three times in three nights, starting in Langley on Friday.

The second and third game will be played in Victoria.
