Daily Dose of the Dub: Hitmen rout the ICE, DiLaura earns first WHL Shutout

It was a quiet day for news around the Western Hockey League so we will get right into the Three Stars from last night’s action.

Three Stars of the night:

  1. Carson Focht – The Calgary Hitmen forward opened the scoring with his fourth goal of the season. He went on to add three assists in the first four point game of his WHL career. The Hitmen would go on to win 7-3 over the Kootenay Ice. James Malm also had one goal and three assists in the win.
  2. Isaiah DiLaura – The Prince George Cougars goaltender made 26 saves in his first career WHL shutout. The netminder has played in 20 WHL games to date. His heroics led the Cougars to a 1-0 victory over the Vancouver Giants.
  3. Joachim Blichfeld – Another two goal night for Blichfeld, including the insurance marker as the Portland Winterhawks skated past the Kelowna Rockets 4-2. It was his fourth two goal night of the season.

Honorable mentions:

-Reese Johnson was the hero for the Red Deer Rebels for the second night in a row, this time scoring the overtime game winning goal in the Rebels 3-2 win over the Swift Current Broncos… Connor Dewar scored the game winning goal and added an assist in the Everett Silvertips 5-2 win over the Kamloops Blazers…. Connor Bouchard tallied two assists and the shootout winner in the Tri-City Americans 3-2 shootout victory over the Brandon Wheat Kings.

From Friday night, there was a “Troubling moment” in the game between the Red Deer Rebels and the Brandon Wheat Kings. Linden McCorrister was in action in Brandon’s game last night, so it would be presumed he did not receive a suspension. Jacob Herauf did sit out of the Rebel’s Saturday night game in Moose Jaw but was back in the line up last night for Red Deer.
