Blazers sign defenceman Kaden Hammell

The Kamloops Blazers announced the signing of defenceman Kaden Hammell on Thursday. Hammell — the Blazers’ first selection of the 2020 WHL Bantam Draft at 19th overall — is the first prospect from the Blazers’ ‘05 crop to put pen to paper.

Hammell played the 2019-20 season with the West Vancouver Bantam Prep team of the Canadian Sport School Hockey League. The right-shot rearguard totaled 12 goals, 29 assists, and 41 points in 29 games to lead his team in scoring by defensemen.

In a media release from the Kamloops Blazers, general manager Matt Bardsley noted Hammell’s strengths: “He has an excellent combination of skating, skill, hockey sense and compete along with a strong presence which will be a great addition to our organization.” A player profile of Kaden Hammell can be found over at DraftGeek.
