WHL recap: ICE skate past a weary Blazers squad

Kootenay 4 @Kamloops 0

The miles put on the road seemed to catch up with the Kamloops Blazers (13-15) on Sunday afternoon. They had hosted the Everett Silvertips on Friday, went down for a game Saturday night with the Seattle Thunderbirds in Kent, WA and then went back home for this one Sunday.

The Kootenay ICE(13-15-1-0)’s Duncan McGovern notched his first career shutout, that was helped after a Teddy Bear Toss goal was waved off midway through the first. Brodi Stuart collided with McGovern and freed up enough room for his squad to pound home the loose puck. Despite the quick no-goal ruling, the bears still came cascading down.

Kootenay would add to the woes of the 4975 present as Dallas Hines slapped home a shot on the rush to make it 1-0 ICE.

Sebastian Streu took a slick feed in front from Keenan Taphorn to double the ICE lead. They would have that 2-0 lead after 40 minutes.

Vince Loschiavo and Colton Veloso each added goals in the third to put this one away. Dylan Ferguson was pulled with 9:31 left, after giving up Veloso’s power play mark. He stopped 18 of 22. Max Palaga came in and stopped all three shots he faced.

Colton Kroeker had three assists in the game to lead the way offensively, while Veloso added two points.

Kootenay will play in Prince George Tuesday, while the Blazers get some rest, before heading on their East Division swing, starting Friday in Prince Albert.
