Playoff History: Portland Winterhawks vs. Spokane Chiefs

2013 Portland won 4-0 2nd Round, The Winterhawks had 27 more points than the Chiefs before the teams met in the West semi-final. This series was all Portland as they outscored the Chiefs 18-3 in the four game series. Mac Carruth posted two shutouts along the way and Ty Rattie had a hat trick in the opening game of the series. The Winterhawks were on their way to the Memorial Cup, they lost in the final to the Halifax Mooseheads.

2011 Portland won 4-2 West Final, The two teams were so tight that Portland barely held off the hard charging Chiefs for the division title. One point separated the two teams. Four of the six games were settled by a single goal. Spokane did put up eight goals in the fourth game at home. Troy Rutkowski would score the eventual series winner at 5:22 of the third period. Ty Rattie and Nino Neiderreiter would add insurance to take the series in six.

2010 Portland won 4-3 1st Round, Spokane finished four points ahead of Portland for third in the U.S. Division. It would be the Winterhwaks who would prevail though. This series was dominated by the road team, winning all seven games. No game was won by more than two goals and one of those games had an empty net goal. It was such a close series that game seven required overtime. In the overtime, Portland’s hero was Ty Rattie. His goal was scored with 2:31 left in overtime number one.

2003 Spokane won 4-3 1st Round, 2001 Portland won 4-1 West Final, 1998 Portland won 4-3 West Final (Portland went on to win the Memorial Cup hosted by the Spokane Chiefs), 1996 Spokane won 4-3 1st Round, 1992 Spokane won 4-2 1st Round, 1987 Portland won 5-0 1st Round, 1986 Portland won 5-4 1st Round (Portland would participate in the Memorial Cup as hosts).
