Brook one of six Warriors headed to NHL summer camps

Josh Brook had a memorable Saturday.

In the morning he was selected in the second round, 56th overall, by the Montréal Canadiens in the National Hockey League draft. That night he graduated from Goose Lake High School in Roblin, Man.

The six-foot-one, 185-pound defenceman shot up draft boards as the season wore on. He wasn’t selected to compete in the Top Prospects Game, but Brook led the Warriors in playoff scoring with seven points in seven games.

Brook had eight goals and 40 points in 69 regular season games last season.

As a boy, Brook’s bedroom was decorated in the Habs’ bleu, blanc et rouge. Now he will attend the Canadiens summer development camp from July 2-6.

While Brook was the only member of the Moose Jaw Warriors selected over the two days of the NHL Draft, he won’t be the only Warrior attending a summer development camp.

Jayden Halbgewachs was passed over in the draft for a second time, but the 50-goal man will get to show his talent to the brass of the expansion Vegas Golden Knights at their summer development camp.

Last year Tanner Jeannot went to training camp with the Minnesota Wild. This year the rugged winger is headed to the Washington Capitals summer development camp. He will be joined by teammate Dmitri Zaitsev. The Warriors defenceman was a Capitals draft pick two years ago.

Two more 2016 draft picks are also off to summer developmental camp. First-rounder Brett Howden is off to Tampa Bay and fourth-rounder Noah Gregor knows the way to San Jose.
