Skinner has such a high potential ceiling, that at times it is somewhat easy to overlook some of things he needs to work on. That being said, his progression from last season is certainly trending in the right direction. Just 6 games into this season, his numbers aren’t out-of-this-world for the #1 ranked goalie in the 2017 NHL Draft, but his attention to details in his game have been noticeable. Skinner has taken a more calm approach to the game, working on his positional play, and even putting himself in better positions to get across the crease quicker. His glove hand has always been good, but with improved ability to stay on his feet in tight, it’s allowed him to utilize his size in positive ways. He continues to impress with his ability to see through traffic, make big saves, and keep his team in games. With some more help on the Hurricanes back end throughout the year, his numbers should improve and we could see a push for the top 5 in the NHL Draft come June
