Central Division Recap

Calgary

Last Week – 4 games – 1-1-1-1, lost twice to Medicine Hat (one in a shootout), split a pair to Edmonton (loss was in overtime), Hitmen had a lead in 3 of the 4 games.

Beck Malenstyn 5 goals 1 assist, Matteo Gennaro 1 goal 4 assists, Jakob Stukel 1 goal 3 assists, Mark Kastelic 2 goals 1 assist, Michael Zipp 3 assists.

This Week – Host Vancouver then off to a 4-game trip against East Division teams

Playoff Position – 8 points behind Red Deer and Edmonton for a Wild Card spot and have 4 games in hand on both teams.

Trade Deadline – Have an opening for an over-ager. If they decide to build for the future they have 7 19-year-olds and can only keep 3 next season as over-agers. (Porter, Gordon, Reagan, Stallard, Twarynski, Stukel, Gennaro)

Remaining Schedule – 20 home, 17 away.

 

Edmonton

Last Week – 4 games – 2-2-0-0, split home-and-home series’ with Red Deer and Calgary winning both home games. Aaron Irving 2 goals 5 assists, Davis Koch 5 assists, Lane Bauer 3 goals 1 assist, Will Warm 2 goals 2 assists.

This Week – Host Vancouver, visit Lethbridge, host Medicine Hat.

Playoff Position – Tied with Red Deer for 3rd place in the Central.

Trade Deadline – Have made the playoffs 6 years in a row and could make a few minor additions to try a pull an upset in the post season.

Remaining Schedule – 16 home, 17 away.

 

Kootenay

Last Week – 3 games – 2-1-0-0, split home-and home against Lethbridge and won in Red Deer.

Zak Zborosky 4 goals 2 assists, Matt Alfaro 2 goals 3 assists, Austin Wellsby 1 goal 2 assists, Cale Fleury 3 assists.

This Week – Will play games in 3 nights on the weekend, home-and-home with Spokane and host Vancouver.

Playoff Position – 16 points out of a Wild Card spot.

Trade Deadline – Intriguing over-agers with goalie Payton Lee and forwards Matt Alfaro & Zak Zborosky.

Remaining Schedule – 16 home, 17 away.

 

Lethbridge

Last Week – 3 games – 2-1-0-0, split home and home with Kootenay, scored 9 goals to beat Medicine Hat.

Tyler Wong 4 goals 3 assists, Giorgio Estephan 2 goals 5 assists, Brett Davis 4 goals 1 assist, Brennan Menell 5 assists.

This Week – 4 games in 5 nights, visit Swift Current & Moose Jaw, host Edmonton & Red Deer.

Playoff Position – 2nd in Central, 10 points behind Medicine Hat, 5 ahead of Edmonton and Red Deer.

Trade Deadline – Have been active making trades this season. Would like to make a few additions to make some noise in the post season.

Remaining Schedule – 17 home, 17 away.

 

Medicine Hat

Last Week – 3 games – 2-1-0-0, swept home-and-home against Calgary, lost 9-7 to Lethbridge.

Matt Bradley 2 goals 4 assists, Mason Shaw 2 goals 3 assists, John Dahlstrom 1 goal 4 assists.

This Week – Host Regina & Vancouver, visit Edmonton.

Playoff Position – 1st in Central, 10 points ahead of Lethbridge.

Trade Deadline – Goalie Nick Schneider had a 4.93 goals-against-average last week thus yesterday’s trade with Portland to add Michael Bullion. Could add at least 1 defenseman plus will get Rubins (Latvia) back from WJHC next week.

Remaining Schedule – 17 home, 16 away.

 

Red Deer

Last Week – 3 games – 1-2-0-0, split home and home with Edmonton, lost to Kootenay.

Brandon Hagel 2 goals 2 assists, Josh Mahura 2 assists.

This Week – Host Vancouver, visit Lethbridge.

Playoff Position – Tied with Edmonton for 3rd in Central.

Trade Deadline – Added Austin Glover to fill final over-age spot. Have made a few trades this season to keep roster solid to secure a playoff position. Could make waves if they decide to move Musil and Spacek.

Remaining Schedule – 17 home, 16 away.
