Calgary Hitmen

Last Week – 2-0-0-0. A couple of 1-goal decisions this week for the Hitmen who beat Edmonton 2-1 in overtime and edged Saskatoon 3-2.

The Hitmen earned 2 wins even though they scored only 5 goals and they came from 5 different players: Mark Kastelic, Andrei Grishakov, Andrew Fyten, Vladislav Yeryomenko and Jakub Stukel. Goalie Trevor Martin had a 1.48 GAA and .929 save%.

This Week – Wednesday morning at 11 they host Brandon then its 3 games in 3 nights on the weekend as the Hitmen host Medicine Hat before a home-and-home against Red Deer which has major playoff implications.

Playoff Position – Tied with Saskatoon for the 2nd Wild Card spot and have 1 game in hand on the Blades. They play the Blades 1 more time this season. 2 points behind Red Deer for 3rd place in the division and have 2 games in hand on the Rebels. They have 3 head-to-head meetings remaining with the Rebels.

Edmonton Oil Kings

Last Week – 1-1-1-0. The Oil Kings started the week with a 3-2 overtime win over Kootenay and that marked the first time in 2 months that they won back-to-back games. They lost 2-1 in overtime to Calgary and then 7-4 in Medicine Hat.

Trey Fix-Wolansky scored 5 goals to take over the team lead in goals with 20. Davis Koch had 2 goals and 2 assists and leads the team with 60 points.

This Week – The club will play 4 road games in 5 nights with stops in Kamloops, Kelowna and Prince George.

Playoff Position – 9 points behind Saskatoon for the 2nd Wild Card spot.

Kootenay ICE

Last Week – 1-1-1-0. The ICE lost 3-2 in overtime in Edmonton, then came home to beat Saskatoon 3-2 in overtime and finally, they lost 4-1 to the visiting Victoria Royals.

Vince Loschiavo scored 2 goals, including the overtime winner against the Blades, and leads the team with 23 goals. Dallas Hines had 2 assists and Brett Davis had 1 goal and 1 assist.

This Week – The ICE will visit Red Deer and then return home to host Lethbridge.

Playoff Position – The team has the fewest points in the WHL and are 1 point behind Prince Albert with 1 game in hand.

Lethbridge Hurricanes

Last Week – 2-0-0-0. The Hurricanes continue to score a lot of goals and earn more wins. They beat Victoria 5-4 in a shootout and tripled Saskatoon 6-2. In the last 19 games they have a record of 16-1-1-1. They have won their last 8 home games.

The line combination of Tyler Wong (3 goals 4 assists), Matt Alfaro (3 goals 2 assists) and Zak Zborosky (2 goals 2 assists) combined for 16 points.

This Week – Lethbridge will wrap up a 4 game home stand as they host Moose Jaw and Brandon, then will finish the week in Kootenay.

Playoff Position – 2nd place in the division, 6 points behind the Tigers with a game in hand and 2 head-to-head meetings remaining.

Medicine Hat Tigers

Last Week – 2-1-0-0. With players out of the line-up because of the mumps the Tigers beat Victoria 3-1, lost in Swift Current 3-1 and outscored Edmonton 7-4. They have won 11 of their last 13 including 8 straight at home.

Mark Rassell and Matt Bradley each had 3-goal weeks while Tyler Preziuso had 3 assists.

This Week – The team will host Moose Jaw, visit Calgary and then host Brandon.

Playoff Position – Have clinched a playoff spot, currently 1st place in the division 6 points ahead of Lethbdridge with the Hurricanes having a game in hand. 4 points behind Regina for the most points in the East Conference and the WHL.

Red Deer Rebels

Last Week – 0-3-0-1. Still looking for a win during a 5-game road trip but are getting closer. The trip started with a 4-1 loss in Seattle, followed with an 8-4 decision in Tri City, 4-3 in Portland and 4-3 in a shootout in Vancouver. That extends the losing streak to 8 games and have just 1 win in the last 11.

Akash Bains (2 goals 1 assist), Michael Spacek (1 goal 3 assists), Jacob Herauf (3 assists) and Colton Bobyk (3 assists) led the offense. Jared Freadrich and Lane Zablocki each had 2 goals.

This Week – The road trip concludes in Prince George and then will play 3 games in 3 nights starting at home against Kootenay and Calgary and then will travel to Calgary.

Playoff Position – 3rd place in the division, 2 points ahead of the Hitmen and Calgary has 2 games in hand. The Rebels and Hitmen play each other 3 more times over the last 4 weeks. The Rebels are also 2 points ahead of Saskatoon for the 2nd Wild Card spot and the Blades have 1 game in hand and they play each other 1 more time.
