The Victoria Royals main camp opened Monday as a lot of familiar faces hit the ice in preparation for the 2017-18 season. Names like Phillips, Soy, Outhouse, Nagy and Walford were all in attendance on day one of the main camp. Notable changes from last year’s main roster include:

Additions

  • D- Anthony Bishop (98): trade with Seattle
  • F- Igor Martynov (99): CHL Import Draft
  • F- Yan Khomenko (98): trade with Prince George

Departures

  • F- Blake Bargar (98): trade with Seattle
  • D- Marsel Ibragimov (97): signed with CSKA Moskva of the KHL
  • F- Ethan Price (97): 20-year-old not returning
  • D- Loch Morrison (97): 20-year-old not returning

Also absent today were two of their other 20-year-old players. Forward Vladimir Bobylev was selected to the Toronto Maple Leafs 2017 Rookie Tournament roster, and looks to turn pro with either the Leafs organization or the KHL. Los Angeles Kings draft pick  Chaz Reddekopp was also not at day one of the Royals camp, after signing a three-year entry-level contract with the Kings.

With so many returning players, the roster may prove difficult for newcomers to crack.  Players invited to the main camp after taking part in the Rookie Camp include:

Goaltenders: Brock Gould (01); Connor Martin (02); Dylan Black (02)

Defence: Mitchell Becker (01); Kaden Reinders (02); Jonny Lambos (01); Spencer Florchuck (02); Remy Aquilon (01); Noah Lamb (02); Andrew Ramsey (02); Caleb Rausch (01); Parker Malchuk (01); Zach Cunningham (01); Griffen Barr (02); Carson Golder (02)

Forwards: Carter Loney (02); Ty Thorpe (02); Kahlil Fontana (01); Tarun Fizer (01); Tyus Gent (01); Dallon Melin (02); Lucas Foley (01); Isaac Alvarado (01); Luke Mylymok (01); Ty Yoder (02); Kyle Brown (01); Nico Marini (02)

Victoria Royals training camp continues Tuesday with the 2017 Victoria Royals intrasquad game on Wednesday (7:05pm) at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. Admission is by donation to the Salvation Army’s Wildlife Relief Fund.
